Finnish Rom Culture Museum opens in Helsinki – Founders of the Museum Visit Budapest

Musician Hilja Grönfors together with the other founders of the Finnish Roma Culture Museum were in Budapest for ten days to establish collaboration with Hungarian Romedia Archive. During their visit, with help of FinnAgora, the group organized an event to announce that the museum will open in Helsinki.

At the event Hilja Grönfors performed together with Hungarian Romengo orchestra, the publicist of Roma Culture Museum Angelika Nikkinen gave a speech about the museum’s significance for younger Roma generations and museum’s curator, film director Katariina Lillqvist told about museum’s collaboration with Roma culture institutions in Visegrad area. These include the world’s first museum of Roma culture Brno in Czech and Romedia Archive in Hungary. Also part of the program was the screening of Katariina Lillqvist’s animation Laulu hirsipuusta, a short film from the museum’s collection.
